Piping Foreman
Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors, LLC (TMC)
Location: Houma, Louisiana
Department: New Construction – Piping
Reports To: Piping Superintendent / Senior Pipe Coordinator
Position Overview
The Piping Foreman plays a critical leadership role within Thoma-Sea’s new construction program, overseeing the installation, fabrication, testing, and documentation of piping systems across assigned vessels. This position ensures that all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Thoma-Sea standards, contract requirements, and applicable regulatory bodies including ABS, USCG, and NAVSEA (when applicable).
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge of marine piping systems, the ability to coordinate multi‑trade activities, and the discipline to maintain documentation and configuration control throughout the construction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Piping Installation & Fabrication Oversight
- Interpret piping drawings, isometrics, and specifications to plan and execute daily work.
- Lead and supervise pipefitters in fabrication, fit-up, installation, and system routing.
- Ensure all work meets Thoma-Sea quality standards and applicable marine construction requirements.
- Verify weld joint preparation, cleanliness, and readiness for QA inspection.
- Maintain strict adherence to material specifications, weld procedures, and system cleanliness requirements.
2. System Testing & Inspection Support
- Prepare piping systems for hydrostatic, pneumatic, and operational testing.
- Coordinate test boundaries, isolation points, and system readiness with QA and Test personnel.
- Support all QA inspections and pressure testing activities.
- Assist in resolving test discrepancies, punch items, and corrective actions.
3. Material & Resource Management
- Review Field Routing and identify material needs for upcoming work.
- Track material shortages and communicate impacts to Superintendent/Coordinator.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and preservation of pipe, fittings, valves, and specialty components.
- Verify that all materials meet required MIL‑SPEC, ABS, or project-specific standards.
4. Workforce Leadership & Safety
- Attend & Contribute to daily toolbox talks and enforce Thoma-Sea safety policies and procedures.
- Assign manpower, manage timekeeping, and monitor productivity across assigned tasks.
- Mentor junior pipefitters and support workforce development.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment aboard vessels and in fabrication areas.
5. Coordination & Communication
- Communicate drawing changes, revisions, and engineering updates to the crew.
- Coordinate work with other trades to avoid conflicts.
- Serve as the intermediary point of contact for piping-related issues on assigned vessels.
6. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate as-built documentation for all piping systems.
- Submit work completion reports, progress updates, and material usage logs.
- Ensure configuration control is maintained throughout construction and testing.
- Track rework, non-conformances (NCRs), and corrective actions to closure.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of marine piping experience, including installation and system testing.
- Prior leadership or foreman-level experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of marine piping systems, valves, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with ABS, USCG, and NAVSEA standards (NAVSEA experience preferred but not required).
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and team leadership.
Working Conditions
- Primarily shipboard and shipyard environments, including confined spaces and elevated work areas.
- Requires climbing ladders, bending, lifting, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on project needs.
Piping Foreman – (Houma, LA)
Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors is seeking an experienced Piping Foreman to lead pipe installation, fabrication, and testing activities on new‑construction vessels. This role is hands‑on, fast‑paced, and central to delivering high‑quality commercial and government vessels.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise pipefitters in fabrication, installation, and system routing
- Interpret drawings, isometrics, and specifications
- Prepare systems for hydro/pneumatic testing and support QA inspections
- Coordinate work with welders, electricians, HVAC, and other trades
- Track materials, report progress, and maintain as‑built documentation
- Enforce safety policies and lead daily toolbox talks
Qualifications
- 5+ years marine piping experience (foreman experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of marine piping systems, valves, and materials
- Ability to read P&IDs, drawings, and technical specifications
- Familiarity with ABS, USCG, and NAVSEA standards
