The Thoma-Sea family of companies have been constructing and repairing quality vessels for the commercial marine sector for decades.

Beginning in early 1990: Thoma-Sea Boat Builders, Inc. started with a single shipyard located along the bank of the Intracoastal Waterway in Houma, Louisiana. There the Thomassie family began building projects for brown water towing and vessels for foreign fisheries.

Thoma-Sea continued to expand, building offshore tugs, escort tugs, and small platform supply vessels (PSVs). In January 2003, Thoma-Sea expanded by purchasing the then defunct Halter Shipyard in Lockport, Louisiana. The Lockport facilities allowed Thoma-Sea to build larger, more complex vessels, and Thoma-Sea soon became an industry leader.

Our Facilities

Our facilities span over 120 acres. All of our facilities are located near the central coast of Louisiana, featuring ready access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Our resources include:

  • Over 4,600 feet of waterfront access

  • Five Dry Docks ranging from 2500 tons to 10600 tons of lifting capacity

  • A 12,000 square foot ABS approved machine shop

  • A state-of-the-art pipe fabrication shop

  • 168,500 square feet of covered fabrication shops

  • 1,330 tons of combined mobile lifting capacity

  • A 14,000 square foot warehouse

Company Timeline

Thoma-Sea began as a small business owned by the Thomassie family in 1990. With an unrivaled dedication to quality and service, the company has expanded both physically and in repair and construction capability over the last thirty years.

1990

Thoma-Sea Boat Builders, Inc. started with a single shipyard in Houma, LA. Together, the Thomassie family works on projects for brown marine towing and sea-worthy vessels for foreign fisheries.

2003

Thoma-Sea expanded by purchasing a shipyard in Lockport, Louisiana, and created Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders, LLC.

2005

Thoma-Sea expanded its operations by breaking ground on a new construction facility in Houma, becoming the first tenant for the newly developed Port of Terrebonne.

2008

Thoma-Sea began repair and conversion operations in the Port of Terrebonne. This allowed us to expand our repair and conversion operations through the development of a new 60-acre site.

2010

Thoma-Sea merged the Lockport & Houma facilities under one entity, and thus Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors, L.L.C. was born. This utilized the combined resources of multiple locations, allowing Thoma-Sea to offer exceptional value for our customers in the marine industry.

2012

Thoma-Sea completed the first phase of construction for the repair facility. The move to the entrance of the Port of Terrebonne poised the facility for future growth.

2013

Thoma-Sea completed the construction of our fourth dry dock, adding capacity to lift and repair vessels in excess of 8000 tons.

2014

Thoma-Sea installed additional shore power and water stations.

2015

Thoma-Sea completed the installation of an additional 600 feet of bulkhead in the repair facility.

2016

Thoma-Sea’s fifth dry dock opened for service, adding additional capacity to lift and repair vessels up to 10600 tons. This dry dock also features a bay for servicing drop down thrusters in a safe and efficient manner minimizing vessel downtime.

Saw the addition to a state of the art pipe processing and fabrication shop. The Hines 800 NC pipe bending machine allows us to bend and shape pipe up 6” sch 80 with a maximum bend angle of 190 degrees. Our Muller Opladen RB 900-6 CNC pipe cutting machine allows us to cut, bevel, and saddle pipe and tubing up to 32” in diameter.

2019

As part of Thoma-Sea’s commitment to continuous improvement of our facilities we completed a new hull erection site capable of supporting the heaviest of vessels and installed an additional 800 linear feet of bulkhead.

2020

Thoma-Sea celebrates thirty years of unparalleled service, skill and capacity in the Louisiana area.
